CARMICHAEL, CA (MPG) - "Thirst Aid for Trees" will feature hands-on demonstrations, expert advice, water-saving tools and information on rebates and irrigation upgrades.

Sacramento Suburban Water District (SSWD), in partnership with Sacramento Tree Foundation, invites community members to attend “Thirst Aid for Trees,” a free summer tree care event on Friday, July 24, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the SSWD Garden on Eden located at 4900 Eden Court in Carmichael.

The event will feature hands-on demonstrations showing how to properly water both newly planted and established trees during Sacramento’s hottest months. Attendees can stop by anytime during the event to learn simple techniques that help trees remain healthy and resilient throughout the summer.

Visitors will receive a free pre-drilled tree-watering bucket and water-saving devices, one per household, while supplies last. The buckets are designed to slowly deliver water to a tree’s root zone and include instructions to help homeowners continue using the technique at home.

"Trees provide shade, beauty and long-term value to a property, but many homeowners have never been shown how to water them properly," said Greg Bundesen, Conservation and Communications Supervisor for SSWD. "This event is designed to provide practical, hands-on guidance that people can immediately put to use at home."

Throughout the event, attendees will be able to learn how to water newly planted and established trees, pick up a free tree-watering bucket and water-saving devices, see demonstrations of weather-based sprinkler timers and enter a raffle for a WaterSense-labeled weather-based sprinkler timer.

Attendees will also be able to meet representatives from Sacramento Tree Foundation, learn about SSWD rebates and water-saving programs, explore the Garden on Eden demonstration garden and learn how groundwater wells help provide reliable water service in the community.

SSWD staff, Sacramento Tree Foundation representatives, and water-efficiency experts will be available throughout the event to answer questions and provide guidance on tree care, irrigation, and landscape water efficiency.
