SACRAMENTO REGION, CA (MPG) - On Feb. 12, Hornet freshman Gur Libal was named the Big Sky Conference Player of the Week after leading the Hornets to a 3-1 record over the previous week. That included a Big Sky season-opening road win at Portland State.

Those four matches came over a seven-day span, and the Netanya, Israel, native went 4-0 in singles play, and 3-1 in doubles. He won three of the four singles matches in straight sets, including a 7-5, 6-3 win over Portland State's Edoardo Cravanzola at No. 2.

Libal played his first match of the week at No. 3 in the singles lineup, but moved up to No. 2 for his final three matches. He played at positions 1, 2 and 3 in doubles (twice at No. 1).

At No. 3 against American River College on Feb. 5, he won his match by a 6-1, 6-4 score. He followed up that effort with a 7-6 (2), 3-6, 6-3 win at No. 2 against Seattle on Feb. 7. He won in straight sets on Feb. 9 at Portland State and dropped just one game in the home-opening victory over Jessup 6-1, 6-0, on Feb. 11.

Libal played with two different doubles partners, including a 6-3 win at No. 1 in the victory over Portland State. It was that match that clinched the all-important doubles point in a 4-3 victory against the Vikings. He also won his match at No. 2 by a 6-3 score against American River, and 6-1 at No. 1 vs. Jessup.
