Child, Family and Adult Services Director Appointed

SACRAMENTO COUNTY, CA (MPG) - The Board of Supervisors at its Dec. 3 meeting concurred with the County Executive’s appointment of Shelby Boston as Child, Family and Adult Services director, effective Jan. 27.
“The County of Sacramento is truly fortunate to welcome Shelby Boston as the new director of Child, Family and Adult Services,” said Chevon Kothari, Deputy County Executive for Social Services. “With her deep passion, educational foundation and wealth of expertise, Ms. Boston is not only poised to strengthen the department but also to bring meaningful, lasting change to the lives of those we serve throughout the county. Her leadership will undoubtedly inspire progress and foster a brighter future for our community.”
Boston has more than 25 years of experience serving social services agencies. Her experience includes financial administration, crisis management, organizational development, change management, program planning and implementation.
Prior to her appointment, Boston served as the director/public guardian for Butte County’s Department of Employment and Social Services since 2016, where she oversaw and managed operations for that county’s largest department. Prior to that, Boston served as the assistant director for the same department where she oversaw Children, Adult Services and Public Guardian for five years.
During her time in Butte County, Boston served in various positions including as a senior administrative analyst and administrative analyst position in the Children’s Services Division for five years. Boston began her career with the department as a social worker in the Children’s Services Division for nearly 10 years.
Boston is the incoming president of the County Welfare Directors Association and serves on the Paradise Irrigation District Board of Directors, an elected position, and is the current vice-president.
In addition to her professional experience, Boston holds a Master of Social Work degree and a Bachelor of Science degree in health education with a minor in women’s studies, both from California State University, Chico.
