Oct 15, 2024 09:19AM ● By Sacramento Public Library News Release

SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) - This fall, Sacramento Public Library will offer free health and wellness programs including yoga classes, flu vaccine clinics, and opioid overdose prevention workshops.

“The library is here to support our community. We’re grateful to our partners for helping to make health and wellness resources more accessible,” said Community Engagement Services Manager Todd Deck. “Together we’re fostering a healthier, resilient, and more informed community.”

Yoga for Beginners

Starting Oct. 15, six library locations will host Yoga for Beginners. This free 8-week series will feature beginner-friendly poses, breath work, and relaxation techniques to help soothe nervous systems and promote mental wellness. Visit Arden-Dimick, Fair Oaks, Ella K. McClatchy, North Natomas, Robbie Waters Pocket-Greenhaven, and Valley Hi-North Laguna libraries for weekly yoga sessions. This program is made possible with support from The Friends of the Sacramento Public Library. Registration is required for this program.

Flu Vaccine Clinics

In partnership with the Sacramento County Public Health Department, the library will host six free flu vaccine clinics from Nov. 15 to Nov. 26. Clinics will provide vaccinations at no cost for those ages 6 months and older. No ID or insurance is required, making it easy for families to protect themselves against influenza this season. Free COVID-19 vaccines will also be available for eligible individuals while supplies last. Parental consent is required for those 17 and under. Clinics will be hosted at Walnut Grove, Southgate, Central, North Natomas, Sylvan Oaks, and Carmichael libraries.

Opioid Overdose Prevention Workshops

In response to the ongoing opioid crisis, the Sacramento County Opioid Coalition is partnering with the library to offer an Opioid Overdose Prevention Workshop series in December. These workshops will educate participants on recognizing opioid overdoses and administering Narcan/Naloxone. Workshops will be hosted at Arcade, Central, Sylvan Oaks, Southgate, North Sacramento-Hagginwood, and Valley Hi-North Laguna libraries. Each participant will receive a Narcan kit with items to aid in overdose prevention. Registration is required for this program.
