A's Select 17 Players to Complete 2025 First-Year Player Draft

SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) - The Athletics selected 17 players on day two of the 2025 First-Year Player Draft, the club announced on July 14.
The selections are outfielder Gavin Turley (4th round, Oregon State), right-handed pitcher Zane Taylor (5th round, UNC Wilmington), left-handed pitcher Grant Richardson (6th round, Grand Canyon University), catcher Logan Sauve (7th round, West Virginia), left-handed pitcher Corey Braun (8th round, South Florida), third baseman Daniel Bucciero (9th round, Fordham), right-handed pitcher Samuel Dutton (10th round, Auburn), shortstop Bobby Boser (11th round, Florida), left-handed pitcher Alex Barr (12th round, Kankakee Valley High School), catcher Bryan Arendt (13th round, UNC Wilmington), left-handed pitcher Griffin Kirn (14th round, West Virginia), catcher Diego Rosa (15th round, International Baseball Academy), left-handed pitcher Jackson Phipps (16th round, Jacksonville State), shortstop Jared Davis (17th round, Virginia Tech), right-handed pitcher Jay Dill (18th round, Troy), right-handed pitcher Itsuki Takemoto (19th round, Hawaii), and right-handed pitcher Kade Brown (20th round, Sacramento State).
Turley, 21, posted a .351 batting average this season for Oregon State to go along with 13 doubles, 20 home runs, 69 RBI, and a .472 on-base percentage, starting all 65 of the Beavers' games in 2025. Turley holds the program record with 189 career RBI in his three seasons at Oregon State.
Taylor, 23, went 11-2 with a 1.98 ERA (21 er/95.2 ip) across 15 starts this season for UNC Wilmington with 105 strikeouts and just 11 walks issued. He was named the Colonial Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year in 2025. In four collegiate seasons, Taylor totaled a 27-7 record, a 3.28 ERA, and 263 strikeouts.
Richardson, 22, missed the 2025 season at Grand Canyon University due to injury. Across his first two collegiate seasons, he totaled a 6-1 record across 28 outings (nine starts) with a 4.58 ERA, 99 strikeouts, and 39 walks.
Sauve, 21, hit .276 with eight home runs and 36 RBI this season for West Virginia and was named to the All-Big 12 Conference First Team. In three collegiate seasons for the Mountaineers, Sauve was a .284 hitter, totaling 29 doubles, 20 home runs, 97 RBI, and a .387 on-base percentage.
Braun, 22, posted a 3.71 ERA across 16 outings (15 starts) in 2025 for the University of South Florida with 97 strikeouts, 24 walks, and a .229 opponents batting average. Before finishing his collegiate career at South Florida, Braun attended Charleston Southern University, Santa Fe College, and Ole Miss.
Bucciero, 20, started all 58 games for Fordham this season, slashing .320/.424/.516 with 16 doubles, two triples, eight home runs, 35 stolen bases, 37 RBI, 54 runs scored. Across three seasons at Fordham, he hit .316 with 43 doubles, six triples, 20 home runs, 107 RBI, and 138 runs scored. He is just the second player in program history with at least 125 runs, 40 doubles, 20 home runs, 100 RBI, and 60 stolen bases.
Dutton, 22, posted a 7-3 record and 4.31 ERA across 16 starts this season for Auburn with 95 strikeouts and 19 walks. Dutton spent his first three collegiate seasons at Louisiana State University, where he totaled 76 strikeouts and 25 walks over 86.2 innings pitched.
Boser, 22, started all 61 games in 2025 for the Florida Gators, batting .336 with 12 doubles, 18 home runs, 19 stolen bases, and 67 RBI. Prior to 2025, Boser spent his first three collegiate seasons at the University of South Florida, where he combined for 31 home runs, four triples, 85 RBI, and 92 runs scored.
Barr, 18, was the first high school player the A's selected in the 2025 First-Year Player Draft. He is ranked as the No. 2 left-handed pitcher in the state of Indiana according to Perfect Game and is currently committed to Indiana University.
Arendt, 22, hit .279 with 19 doubles, seven home runs, 10 stolen bases, and 33 RBI across 55 games for UNC Wilmington in 2025. Across four collegiate seasons, Arendt recorded a .249 batting average, 36 doubles, 23 home runs, 101 RBI, and 109 runs scored. He is the second player from UNC Wilmington selected by the A's in the 2025 First-Year Player Draft (Zane Taylor, 5th round).
Kirn, 23, posted a 5-3 record with a 3.36 ERA (37 er/ 99.0 ip) and 103 strikeouts across 18 outings (17 starts) for West Virginia in 2025, earning All-Big 12 First-Team honors. Prior to the 2025 season at West Virginia, Kirn played four collegiate seasons at Quincy University, where he went 22-8 with a 4.86 ERA, totaling 259 strikeouts in 215.0 innings pitched.
Rosa, 18, attends the International Baseball Academy & High School in Fajardo, Puerto Rico. He is the No. 3 ranked catcher in Puerto Rico according to Perfect Game, and is currently committed to play collegiately at the University of South Florida.
Phipps, 23, posted a 4-2 record with a 3.33 ERA, 83 strikeouts, and .177 opponents batting average across 15 starts for Jacksonville State in 2025. Prior to 2025, Phipps spent his first three collegiate seasons at the University of South Carolina. As a high school senior at East Paulding High School in Dallas, Georgia, he struck out 16 batters in six innings, tying Zack Wheeler for the school record for most strikeouts in a game.
Davis, 21, hit .283 with 14 doubled, one triple, nine home runs, 14 stolen bases, and 44 RBI in 54 games played this season for Virginia Tech. Prior to 2025 at Virginia Tech, Davis spent the 2024 season as Florida SouthWestern State, recording a .322 batting average, 37 stolen bases, 30 RBI, and 53 runs scored.
Dill, 22, posted a 3.67 ERA (20 er/49.0 ip) across 24 outings (three starts) in 2025 for Troy with 70 strikeouts and 29 walks. Dill began his collegiate career at Clemson University for the 2022 and 2023 seasons, totaling 59 strikeouts in 55.0 innings pitched.
Takemoto, 21, was used heavily as a two-way player in 2025 for the University of Hawaii. As a pitcher, he made 14 starts, recording 57 strikeouts and 22 walks across 67.1 innings pitched. As a hitter, he posted a .256 average with eight doubles, one home run, and 21 RBI in 45 games played.
Brown, 21, went 3-2 with a 2.93 ERA (14 er/43.0 ip) across 22 relief outings this season for Sacramento State with 49 strikeouts and 20 walks. In two collegiate seasons, Brown owns a 6-5 record along with a 3.31 ERA, 103 strikeouts, and 38 walks across 81.2 innings pitched.
The A's selected a total of 19 players in the draft, including 17 college players and two high schoolers. The breakdown features 11 pitchers, two outfielders, three infielders, and three catchers.
