SACRAMENTO REGION, CA (MPG) - National “Hire a Veteran Day” will be observed on Tuesday, July 25, 2023. And if you’re a recent military veteran in the Sacramento area, ready to take the next step in your career, then register now for a special veterans’ hiring event at the PRIDE Industries Career Hub at 7011 Sylvan Road on Tuesday, July 25th in Citrus Heights from 10 am to 2 pm.

“It’s our first time locally hosting this event in Citrus Heights,” said Charles Smith, PRIDE Industries (PRIDE) recruitment manager/talent acquisition in a telephone interview from his Texas office. “It’s a corporate event for us and we’re eager to spread the word about this special event.”

Since 1966, PRIDE Industries has provided employment recruiting services to the military, serving 17 major bases across the country. The company also counts hundreds of veterans of all ranks among its management team and on its board of directors.

PRIDE Industries also partners with multiple government and private organizations including the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the State of California Employment Development Department (EDD) to support the professional development of active and former service members who are ready to build or transition into rewarding civilian careers.

The national “Hire A Veteran Day” aims to inspire employers to recruit and hire veterans by recognizing the unique skills and values that former soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines and Coast Guardsmen bring to the workforce. Roughly 200,000 military members retire or separate from the armed services every year, according to the Department of Labor.

“PRIDE is dedicated to helping our military veterans of all abilities find sustainable employment,” Smith said. Through its contractual relationship with the U.S. Army, PRIDE is looking to fill between 300 to 400 positions in the greater Sacramento area at its upcoming July event.

Through its veterans employment advantage program, run by a team of fellow veterans, PRIDE is eager to help connect vets to needed job support services, job coaching, and employment to get them quickly on a path towards success in the civilian workforce.

Specific support includes an intake session for support services and/or employment, resume writing assistance, describing vocational training opportunities and job placement assistance which includes roles with PRIDE Industries and its employment partners. Scholarships for military children are also available.

Smith said PRIDE is also in the process of hiring a dedicated veterans’ liaison to work in the Citrus Heights office.

“We’re constantly looking for ways to improve our veterans’ outreach program. We’re especially proud to be a very veteran-friendly employer.”

Finding and then competing for civilian positions can be challenging for transitioning veterans. That’s where PRIDE Industries can help. Recent veterans may need help in translating their military experience into civilian experience which employers are looking for.

“PRIDE Industries recognizes that veterans bring competitive skills to civilian jobs, along with core values which their military service cultivates: dedication, teamwork, good communication and pride in getting work done,” Smith said.

“We’re here to help with coaching with job interviews, getting veterans to think professionally and helping them write an effective resume,” he said.

PRIDE Industries of Roseville opened its new Youth Employment Services (YES!) program in the newly reopened Career Hub on 7011 Sylvan Road in Citrus Heights in January 2023.

The company and Crossroads Diversified Services, Inc., are two leaders in providing employment training, support, and job creation for people with disabilities combined operations to open their Citrus Heights center last January.

The combination of PRIDE’s expertise in serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and Crossroads’ specialty in mental health-related disabilities has enhanced local employment training and support services for people with disabilities.

In addition to its upcoming “Hire A Veteran Day” event, Citrus Heights PRIDE Industries staff members also help young participants in its YES! program who are between the ages of 16-24 who have spent time in the child welfare, juvenile justice, or criminal legal systems, as well as those who are unhoused, living in concentrated poverty, or facing other barriers to employment.

Open positions in a variety of industries offer competitive wages, comprehensive benefits, and a supportive work environment for people of all abilities in the greater Sacramento area. Occupational positions include administrative, custodial, driver, floor tech, instructor, job coach, landscaping, store worker, supervisor, supply chain, test engineer and warehouse.

“With our one-of-a-kind veteran job support model, we will help you leverage your skills so you can move forward in civilian life with confidence,” Smith said.
